I came upon an interesting find at a pawn shop today. It's a 22LR smooth bore. Hungh??
I've heard of them of course however never seen one. It was also my understanding that they were fairly collectible. Well here are some pictures so let me know what you think. If there's anything you can tell me about this model and your overall thoughts on a smooth bore 22 I'd love to hear them. FYI they are asking $599 however I'm pretty sure I could get it for $450 as there is some pretty good pitting on the receiver. Other than that the bluing is in good shape and the wood is very clean.
Considering the stamp ROUTLEDGE BORE and it still has the shotgun bead front sight , I think $450 is a fair price due to the pitting .
Correct me if I am wrong, but I think that model was started in 1939 and ended in ? .
Don't know about the Remington smooth bores, But the Winchester model 61's Routledge bore model get very very pricey. I've seen some up around 2k or more. I agree with grcsat that $450 to 500 seems like a good price. Man i like your LSG's where you live. Never see anything for sale like that around here.
Thanks guys. If I'm reading the date code correctly from the side of the barrelmthis particular rifle was manufactured in June of 1953. I really need to stop killing time in gun shops.
Found one with a starting bid of $599 on GB but we all know that really doesn't mean a whole lot. That one came with its own issues, a worn receiver and the wood wasn't in near as good of shape as the one I found. Now I have to figure out a good reason as to why this Remington needs to come live in my gunsafe. Hmmmmmmmm??????????
I saw a Utube video of guys hunting grasshoppers with smooth bore 22s. It looked like fun. I shoot at wasps with a Single Six and 22shot at about 15 feet. So far no results. The shot must be too dispersed because of the rifling.
I had to look at mine to see if it was a "Routledge" ...Not
