Hoping someone can date a Forehand & Wadsworth .32 British Bulldog with SN 62xxx. I also have a very late production model SN 111xxx I place around 1890. Any info would be appreciated.
My search turned up basically the same info you already have. The company operated between 1871 and 1890. Records for those old companies don't exist - to the best of my knowledge!
In 1871 Sullivan Forehand and Henry C. Wadsworth founded Forehand & Wadsworth from the remnants of Ethan Allen & Company after the death of their father-in-law, Ethan Allen. Wadsworth sold his share of the company to Forehand in 1890 in order to retire and the company was rebranded as Forehand Arms.
Thanks for the assist. I'm a nut for the build years of all my old revolvers, the history fascinates me. In the case of this Bulldog, looks like "before 1890" is as close as I probably will get. Again, appreciate the response.
At least you know the makers. I have a few unmarked German drillings, combination guns and single shots about which all I know is they're German. Still a heck of a lot of fun, ain't it!!!!
Absolutely. I too have three folding trigger pocket revolvers, two of which are Belgian, one German. I think they're all .320 caliber, any other info such as maker, year, is anyone's guess. They're still cool though.
If you like Bull-Dogs as I do and all of the history about them then I strongly suggest this book. It has a considerable amount of data about the F&W Dogs:
Thanks 45, I already have that excellent book, referring to it frequently. Appreciate the heads up.
