A lighter weight .22 semi-auto that sells for $300.00 or less. A while back I saw a Walther that peaked my interest. At the time I was thinking of replacing my old Heritage single action as a trap line gun. It wasn't the right fit for that.
Now I'm considering getting one for carry around my place for dispatching snakes and 4 legged varmints. My current tool for this is my EDC XD40 compact. I love it but a bit overkill. Anybody have a favorite they can suggest?
22 is a dirty round and causes alot of powder buildup quickly. All my 22 hand guns are revolvers. They have never failed me. The semi-auto 22's at pistol league are always getting jammed. It is bad when the feild officer starts yelling, "Oil! OIL people oil, oil, oil"!
Just kidding. I agree with Kippy, I prefer a revolver if reliability is important. They go bang every time. Heritage makes a number of single actions in your price range. DA's are more expensive, but for about $400 you can get a Rossi.
Some semi's are less expensive, there are a number in your price range. I'd still think hard about a revolver.
I use a 9 shot Taurus revolver in .22LR. But am going to step up to the Ruger Single Six with the magnum cylinder. When out and about on my place I carry a Charter Arms Off Duty .38 loaded with my own home brew of 'snake' shot. I use #7 shot though.
Issues on a semi-auto as a trap line gun for me were weeded out on another thread. I'm staying with my Heritage for that.
I have some .40 CCI shot shells for my XD. I've not killed a slithery critter with it, but shot pattern looks good on paper. I love my SA revolvers, but there's the bulk issue while doing summer chores. DA would be about the same I think. I saw a Colt Woodsman/Ruger copy (not sure on brand) yesterday. Looked appealing, but didn't handle it so who knows?
The $300.00 or under stipulation isn't etched in stone, but would be nice not to spend more.
Smith and wesson victory, $350 tom$400 new, stainless steel, runs standard velocity ammo, add a tandamkross trigger.....as nice as my smith and wesson 41....
Don't do a Walther p22 , a ruger mark jam-o-matic,a m&p.....all need high velocity ammo and are picky on ammo
Interesting. My guess would be brand new shooters who do not clean their MKs or use crap ammo. Granted the MKs only have a 69 year track record of reliable, accurate performance......
If I need a torque wrench I definitely don't want one. I have a 29a that's fantastic. But it's ugly as hell.
I can't help but wonder about the Victory. I mean High Standard went from a screw to a push-button. S&W went the opposite. Now you need a torque wrench?
