I have an Ithaca featherlight 16 ga model 37. There is no visible serial number on the receiver. Anyone know anything about this? I see by other pictures that it should be on the right side, above the trigger.
That is right curious! I have a Model 37 featherweight in 12 gauge and the serial number is right there above the trigger. Mine was bought in the mid-70's, hopefully someone with a whole lot more knowledge than me will come along and give you an answer.
Thank you for your reply! The only number I find is on the lower left side of the barrel. I assume it's a part number or something. No visible numbers on the receiver anywhere.
Glad to see the photo. I've got the same gun and no serial number I can find. I suspect they are pre 60's guns, maybe pre 50's. Come to think of it I think I have a record of when it was bought in the shop. Go later on and look.
The ser. numbers are on the front of the receiver. (Looking down the barrel on the flat part of the receiver) They did not put the numbers on the side of the receiver till latter on.
First was the front of the receiver then on the bottom in front of the feeder port then on the side of the receiver.
ALL Ithacas had ser. numbers put on them. If by chance you have one that does not then they were taken off for some reason.
Mike
Please excuse my manners Almost forgot.
WELCOME TO TFF !!!!
Thank you for the reply and the welcome! I thought I searched pretty well. From my reading I knew that all should have one but I have yet to find it. There's no sign of tampering to remove them.
Being 15 miles away from Ithaca there is ALLOT of them around here. I have 3 in the shop right now. And have one of every Gage they made. I got my first deer with one when I was 13.
You are welcome.
Keep in mind they are made for that barrel and only that one. Ithaca did not start making them interchangeable intill latter on after ser.# 8555000 around 1963.
Mike
Yeah, Mike, I read somewhere about the interchangeable barrel thing. I must say, that serial number location threw me for a loop! Not very familiar with Ithaca, but I've never seen one there.
There is one on the receiver too.
