I purchased some Winchester 9mm 147 gr. BEB ammo a few years ago. It appears to be a JHP bullet with the hollow point filled with some soft material. It shoots well in my three 9mm's. I bought this ammo from Mills Fleet Farm.

I am sure the ammo is sub-sonic but I can not find any data about this ammo. I am trying to figure out how this ammo compares to the Winchester 147 gr. JHP ammo that is available now and would it be good a self defense round.

Does anyone on this forum know exactly what this ammo is, how it compares to the Winchester 147 gr. JHP ammo available today, and what it is best suited for.

According to their website, it's ball.

BEB is Brass Enclosed Base. Some companies call that "completely encapsulated" or "Total Copper Jacket". The base of the bullet is not exposed to the hot powder gases, so there is less lead released into the air. Add that to the lead-free primer and it looks like it was designed for indoor ranges.

950 fps.

Would not be my first choice for defense in a 9. There are much better choices.

Still, I wouldn't want to be shot with one. Beats a poke in the eye with a sharp stob.
