Very nice! (I wouldn't mind trying it out myself!).
I bought my youngest son a 10-22 when he was 5. Of course when he started off I held the rifle when he shot and watched him like a hawk. Bad thing about starting off a kid with a semi-auto is the Rambo "pray and spray". He is 37 and still shoots that way. I love him to pieces but I wish I had started him off with a single shot or at least a bolt action......
A rifle like that old Stevens is a much better way to get kids into shooting - AND it's a CLASSIC. Have fun!
Mine are nine, eleven and sixteen. I use to have to hold my single six for them to be able to hold it up and shoot. They've all been shooting since they could pull the trigger. Definitely All ways watching over them.
I've got a Hopkins & Allen 922 falling block circa 1890's and the grandkids love shooting it. So do I but then it is a really cool old gun.
Little Evey has to have someone help her hold it, it was a shutzen version before someone cut the big brass "Swiss" buttplate off of it but it still has it's 27 inch full octagon barrel and she's just turned 6 so even with the stock shortened it's longer than she is tall.
I don't blame them, anyone can shoot a new "tacticool black rifle", which is what your 10/22 looks like. It is not every day that a young fellow can shoot a rifle that is 8-10 times older than they are. I would love to shoot it myself
That's very true. I don't blame them ether. But there is a little bit of a back story to the 10-22. A year ago they shot my cuz's semi auto 22. They loved it. I haven't herd the end of how we needed one since then. I got lucky on finding this 10-22 for $100 and couldn't pass on it. It just struck me as funny and actually proud that they have an understanding of old guns.
I don't have too many 22's but let me tell ya. I prefer the oldies for sure. I have a stainless w/walnut stock 10/22 and I can't tell you the last time it was fired. Maybe 5 years ago. My Henry is cool but naaa. I always grab my Winchester Model 1906. Just fun shooting what to me feels like a piece of history.
My ten year old told me that I have to take the cowboy gun. Old double six. He loves shooting that 22. He's a really good shot with it to. Better then I am.
Started my daughter on a Anschutz match 64, she now shoots a 1918 and I shoot my super match 54....funny thing she still out shoots me
