Now, some people take that to mean that "guns are always to be treated as if they are loaded, until you PERSONALLY have verified that it isn't".
Some people take that to mean exactly what it says, and all of their guns are loaded. "An unloaded gun is just an expensive, clumsy club."
So I'm just sitting here wondering, how many here actually keep all of their guns loaded all the time? Pick 'em up to go shoot them, and they are loaded. Shoot 'em, immediately reload 'em. Unload them to clean them, then immediately reload 'em.
And for those of y'all that do - how many have twenty guns or less?
I used to. I remember, waaay back when I had a 30 caliber rifle, a 22 rifle and four pistols, I kept them all loaded all the time. GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED.
Now - I don't know. I open a safe and pick one up, and it might be loaded or it might not. I don't specifically unload them when I put them away (as some folks do). And since I ALWAYS check when I pick one up, it doesn't matter if they are empty or not. As soon as I pick one up I find out. I don't need to know right now.
I have less than 20 guns,(all long guns) and they are always unloaded in my safe, but i still treat them as if they are loaded. When i handle them i always check to see if they are unloaded and make sure they are pointed in a safe direction.
I keep 2 loaded, my EDC and a Mossberg shotgun. The shotgun gets put in the safe during the day but stays loaded. Everything else is unloaded and locked in safes. I have more than 20....
The guns in the safe are sometimes loaded, sometimes not. The ones that are out, are always loaded. (and yes, all guns are always loaded). We do use the orange magazine blocks and bolt blocks for training purposes.
I have no idea how many he has, but I don't mind, as I see it he is keeping me safe
I only keep my carry gun loaded 24/7. Most of the time it is my S&W Shield. When I had the nut case neighbor next door my Benelli Tactical 12 gauge was always loaded next to my bed of my desk in the office. He is gone now so I no longer have that problem.
All my guns are locked in my safe unloaded with the exception of my carry gun. I have a few guns.
The gun(s) that I am currently using for personal protection are loaded and ready to fire. Guns that are locked up are not loaded, but if possible have ammo with them. For example, the gun on my hip or by my bed is fully loaded. A pistol in the cabinet probably has an empty mag in it, but a/some full mags in the case with it. None of my Garands has an enbloc in it, but all have full ones in the case with it.
I own more than 20 guns.
The carry guns are always loaded. I've got a wooden gun cabinet in my den on the main floor of the house with some easy-to-grab guns (for the just in case) right next to where I am right now. Those are an M1 Carbine, a 10-22, an OLD single shot 12 gauge, the '97 pump and the Marlin .30-30. Of those only the .30-30 and the '97 are loaded. My expensive guns are in the safe and unloaded.
I figure if I have TIME to go to the safe and unlock it, I would have time to load them. I do keep one 20 round mag loaded in the safe for the ARs. The guns in the wooden gun cabinet are always unloaded when the grand kids come down. They are good kids - but city kids - and while I trust them, I remember being a kid myself so I don't take any chances.
The handguns in the nightstand and biometric gun safe next to the bed are always loaded. Everything else is unloaded (but are loaded because all guns are loaded?). And I have more than 20 guns.
My 1911 which is my main home pistol is loaded with a spare 8rd mag ready.
My two XD pistols are both loaded since they are my main carry guns. XDs 3.3" and full size depending on what I'm wearing that day.
My 38 snubbie often goes into my pocket if I'm not carrying the XD so that is loaded as well.
My 12ga shotgun is loaded since that is the first thing I will grab at home if I can get to it.
My AR-15 is not loaded but I have multiple mags ready to go.
The rest are not loaded in any way.
3 EDC's are always loaded. I vary on which one to carry (non-carried in the safe loaded). Some times all are in the safe and I go out unarmed to base then home (my base does not allow weapons on person or in vehicle). The other guns are unloaded in safes.
My guns are always loaded, though only my EDC gun is ready to shoot just pull the trigger, other pistol loaded slide locked open, release the slide ready to rock & roll. both rifles loaded just cycle the bolt ready to go. I have way less than 20
Only the Antiques and collectables are unloaded in the safe. Every other gun I own (2, my .22 derringer and my single shot rifle, cause all others were lost in that tragic boat accident) are always loaded whether in the safe or not
I keep whatever pistol I have on me or near me cocked and locked. There is also a pump shotgun next to the wife's nightstand that is chambered and safety on. My deer rifle and the other few handguns I have are locked up and unloaded in a safe but full mags and extra ammo are near them. If I choose to take another pistol with me I take the one I have on me, make it safe and put it in the safe. Not very often do I carry two pistols and the wife doesn't if i'm with her but,, she will grab one and make it ready for when she leaves by herself.
No particular reason really. I imagine I could, figuring the wife and I are the only ones with the safe code and the mags and ammo are already in there. Good question, I have no idea why I don't.
I keep my carry pistol & a few pistols concealed in defensive positions throughout the house (no kids in the house)fully loaded w/one in the chamber. I keep my long guns in the safes with a full mag or two for each gun. When I go to the range everything is unloaded except my carry on my side.
My guns in the safe are not loaded because they do not have to be.
ALL shop guns are loaded and ready to go boom.
ALL SD guns are loaded.
I have many guns.
Mike
Sig 229 never unloaded, Smith 686 never unloaded, Mossberg 930 Spx chamber MT tube never unloaded. They may or may not be locked in the safe depending on the circumstances. Ruger LCR EDC never unloaded. The rest are generally unloaded unless some perceived need dictates other wise, Marlin 17 Hmr.
I have over 20 guns, and they are all loaded at all times. If I had to go to the safe to get a gun, then it's an emergency, and I've already wasted to much time to try and load it. No gun I own will help me defend my life, or my property, if it ain't loaded! All members of my family know that if they see a gun in this house, it's loaded. No matter if it's in the gun safe, or not.
