Here at TFF we certainly have a comradery you can't find anywhere else. I've been struggling with an old rifle I have, a Steven's Crackshot 26. The hole in the receiver for the action block screw, if that's what it's called, is a little stripped and every 10/32 screw I could find wouldn't stay tight or it would bend. I tried Numrich as well as a couple others to no avail. Then I started trying to harden my own which didn't work very well either. Finally I went to a hardware store that had what I think is called a grade 5 screw that worked (it was .004" larger than all the others) however this old rifle looks pretty darn silly with a hex head screw in the receiver. I was telling one of our members (who I'm sure would rather I not mention his name) about my plight when he asked for the dimensions of what I needed and he'd see what he could find. Bye the bye this feller makes some beautiful black powder guns . In a day he contacted me with a winner and is mailing it out today. I can't tell you how happy this one screw has made me feel. Been struggling for a couple years and I finally will have the old rifle looking as it should. The people here are sure something special.
You might need to case harden it after it's file fit, I have no idea what grade it is, if you don't mind waiting another couple of days I have a couple items that need to be color case hardened and I'll shorten it to your dimensions and toss it in the crucible. I'll be away from the shop until Monday, My Dad Passed away Sunday and I have more important things to take care of tomorrow, I think you can understand the delay.
I'm very sorry to hear of your loss, Grizz. My Mom passed on 7/1, just about two weeks ago. It's amazing, and distressing, to experience the huge waste of resources required to get a simple document like a Death Certificate. There's no excuse possible for their complete lack of competence.
Griz, seems to be way too much of that going around right now. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Of course, take all the time you need. Someday we'll have to all meet at jw's house for a West Coast get together. I'll be keeping you and your family in my prayers.
Heavenly Father, I lift Dave and his family up to You. May You comfort them in this time of loss and let them know they have people that care very much about them. I have so much I'd like to say but can't find the words. Lord, you know my heart and please touch all those impacted by this loss through your Holy Spirit.

Thank you Firpo and the rest of my TFF family, I'm holding out OK but I worry about Mom, sons are like that.
Now enough about sadness and lets get that Steven's back in shape. If there is ever a TFF get together close by I will want to shoot it, And I bet I have a few you guys would like to fire off a time or two.
This is one of the best forums I've been part of since the WWW, when I came online in 1991.
A brotherhood with a common interest of preserving the 2nd.
Rae, I vote that you are in charge of cherry pie at any TFF gathering, did you really think you'd get off Scott free after teasing us with those pie pictures.
So that's Roger, Griz and myself that have all lost parents in the last two weeks. Amazing. What in the heck is going on? I suppose just life......but wow.
Roger, if I didn't tell you already, you have my heart felt condolences and prayers for you and your family.
jw , tell Darlene ....firpo, griz1, big Mak and you can all stay for free in my camper that's in the scrap iron pile, just bring your own wasp spray, mouse traps and snake boots.
Larry.
WISE acher's. Soon as I get a green light to take a deer for the freezer, I'm there with North West IPA and smoked salmon! Oh, and good converstation! If I don't make you cry with some of my stories, my job ain't done!
I have been hauling in my scrap pile YS. Not much money for it but it's all about cleaning up the mess I made at my land.
The big mess is 200 ton of dirt I need to move. I'm making a 100 yd back
stop . ( asked if anyone had dirt in the area & got 200 ton Surprise ! )
That would be a big back stop ! Now I have to move it all down range.
( I need to buy bigger equipment ! )

Firpo, remind me. Is that a .22? If so it looks a lot like the one I learned to shoot with; dad had it as a boy and it now resides in my brother's gun safe.

Why yes it is BlackEagle. Stevens Crackshot 26 in 22LR. Not sure if they made it in other calibers but I'm thinking not. It will be nice having it functional again. It will be moved up to squirrel and rabbit deturant duty. As I recall it is reasonably accurate. I'll post some target pics once I get'r running again.
Not so good. Took it to a gunsmith who was supposed to have fixed it but after firing three different ammunition manufacturers I still couldn't get it to fire more than 40%. Took the bolt out and I'll be dipped it the striker only sticks out .034" past the bolt face. Dang It! Called the guy who acted like it was no big deal. "Just bring it back" he told me. It's not like this guy is right around the corner. I did get it back to him yesterday and it should be done next week. I told him I wanted that pin sticking out .050" like I asked for when I dropped it off the first time. Hopefully he gets it right this time. If not I know where I'm bringing it next.
Hope this time he gets it right. Can't wait to see a range report on it.
