Hello just got a 3006 and i wanting to get a quality scope was thinking about a ffp scope but prices to get a good glass on those my job sad to say cant afford one but i came to the conclusion i want to reach 1000 yd over time and want a scope that can handle it instead of wasting money buying a vortex or something rather save and get something last me long time i know the military used to use FIXED power 10x scopes less moving parts then adjustable ffp i figure might save some money but what arw some good FIXED power scopes that could get me to 1000yd. Wanting to make a long range hunting rifle most shots for coyotes will be 100-700 but would like to also shoot paper at 1000

Scopes are a personal accessory best suited for different tastes and moods. While I have a scope that I paid $500 for when I was 20 my vision was such that I could have used it at a thousand yards easily, not anymore. So my recommendation is save and save so that the scope you buy will definitely be useful through the decades as your sight will definitely go south and by the way a mile is now the new 1000 yds now.

Im glad you came to the conclusion a vortex scope won't reach a 1000 yards. Now I'm going to have to save more money to replace mine:(. Maybe a US Optics will reach that far:rolleyes:.

I know the SWFA 10x42 is pritty good the navy had a contract with this scope and got the super sniper name from swfa dealer glass i heard pritty good but with money saved from being fixed they put that money into the turrents heard great tracking but my question with this scope is what does image look like at 25 -100 want to use for hunting but how does the sigjt look up close is 10x still good for up close cant find no videos or pics through scope up close would not mind getting one to practice my precision within 600-800 yd upgrade to a us optics or something later i looled up trigicon acupoint and acupowrr but they dont seem to have the ideal settings for long range

The parallax can be adjusted from 10 meters to infinity so at 25yds slightly out of focus. But do you really need to take a precision shot at 25yds with a 30-06?

The image clarity should be nearly the same throughout the focus range. Zoom is where the clarity problems can come in.

The FFP's are nice for when you are at less than the usual 18X as past that SFP are fine at 1000 to a point. The problem w/ the 1000yd is amount you can adjust out in elevation. The extra turns seem to be w/ the more expensive scopes. I have a 6-24X50 FFP Viper PST ebr-2c reticles and I have to use a 20moa base for my 7-08. The other side of the adjustment is to shoot at 100 yds. Hitting steel at 1000yds anymore isn't that big of a problem if you fire for effect. The hard part is the first shot at different temps of the day and using different angles. That's where you can find the true artists. I am not an artist.

Yes it is true that you 1,000 yd long range for hunting not saying id take all my shots at 1,000 just want the am able to second yes they. Could be gut shoot i can gut shot a deer at 100 yds if it gut shot find it and put it down as fast as you. Can. Shot range i shoot coyotes now 300-400 would like to go shoot prair dogs. Dont know how you stalk them on flat open areas
