Curious as to the age of this old pistol, and value, if any.
It is 7 inches overall, has a 1 & 3/4 inch barrel, rubber grips, 6 shot swing out cylinder.
On the barrel it says COLT DA 32.
On the frame it has the colt emblem (horse) and says Colt's NEW POCKET.
On the bottom of the grip is stamped 10563.
The finish is approx 60%. on a portion of the barrel it looks as if someone had used
light sandpaper, or steel wool, (maybe to get rid of rust).
Here are the pics.
I had one of those. Most of them are .32 Colt caliber and will NOT accept 32 ACP, 32 SW long, 32 SW, 32 COLT NEW POLICE. About 30,000 were made right around 1900. Ocassionally winchester (IIRC) makes a run of the 32 Colt Short. They don't have the safety system to prevent firing when dropped. Other than that they are nice little guns. I have seen very little collector interest in them. A gun smith quoted me $150 to ream out the cylinder to take 32SWL but he recommended agianst that because he felt it had potential to become collectable. It takes a heel type bullet. If you want to scratch and dig the internet you may be able to find reloading components for it. The little guns have good workmanship but the metals aren't heat treated. That started in the 20's. I have a Colt Police Positive in 32 New Police made in the late 20's which has been remarkable. I had some old reloading data which produced very high velocity (over pressure) loads and I shot 1500 rounds of magnum level loads before I pulled my head out of the place where the sun doesn't shine. The gun is appparently unhurt except for an atrociously leaded barrel.
