I was in Cabelas today and I ask the counter guy why they no longer carry Ruger Blackhawks. In my family we have bought 5 of them from this store in the past few years. Apparently I was the only one buying them. The guy told me they couldn't sell them. No one seems to want them anymore.

My LGS told me the same thing a year ago. They still stock them but sales are very slow. I must be getting old as they are my all time favorite handguns. I trained all my kids on a Ruger Blackhawk when they were young. I guess all people want today are plastic semi autos.

i remember reading about the "rise of Ruger"....Bill Ruger was a genius....He used investment casting to make affordable guns.....and did a lot to stir the interest in firearms: singe shot rifles, the Mini 14, the 10-22, his quality autos......etc...I bought a Ruger blackhawk with a 6" barrel in 357 magnum. Partly to have three calibers in one handgun...38 special 357 magnum and 9mm with the interchangeable cylinder. My dream was to get another ruger blackhawk in 45 long colt so that I could also fire 45 acp with an interchangeable cylinder...That would give me two guns with 5 caliber capability...great for SHTF and Prepping. Unfortunately I never could afford the 45 and had to sell the 357 magnum when times got tough.....sorry I did I should have kept the Ruger....great guns...I still have my mini 14 I bought in 1976...its a 180 model....too bad its hard to find parts for it....

Bought my Blackhawk back in 83 or 84, .357 with the 9mm cylinder. I put Pachmayr grips on it so I could hold on to it when shooting .357's...the 9mm cylinder sits on my bench for plunk check 9's...that gun ain't going anywhere! It's not a safe queen, I do take it to the range, but now only with .38s...

Back in the 1970s I was a Survivalist. I figured the war would start with Russia and it would be rise up from the ashes and survive another day. I read Mel Tappans Survival Guns and opted to buy GI caliber guns becasue according to Mel, you could always fire GI ammo, for your own guns. So, I had a Springfield 1903a3 for my 30.06, my 12 gauge Mossberg 500. I bought a Ruger mini 14 180 when it came out in 1976...still have it. FOr handguns I had a S & W Model 39 in 9mm( PS... I am not a fan of the 9mm...these pip squeak rounds proved in adequate during WW1...the Army adapted the 45 cal after the Philippine uprising and I believe the 45 cal is the cal to go to...but since the world has the 9mm as the premier GI round...best to have guns that shoot it).....My favorites tho were my Ruger Blackhawk 357 magnum. I bought the 357 Blackhawk so that I would have three calibers in one gun, 38 special, 357 magnum and i forget what the extra cylinder was for ...30 mi carbine?....As you can see I never fired the Blackhawks extra cylinder.....OH, I REMEMBER...it was NOT 30 mi it was 9mm....so I had those three calibers in one gun. I fired the 38 specials and 357 magnums in the blackhawk...Loved that gun. I am a big guy...6ft and 220 lbs so the recoil of the 357 magnum(6.5" baRRel) was nothing for me. It just rolled back in my hand and I cocked the trigger on the way down. I was pretty fast with it and imagined holding off the Zombies with the Ruger. My wish was to have another Blackhawk in 45 long colt and with a 45 acp cylinder. I later got a 1911 colt 45 acp gun so I figured i was ready for the apocalypse. I was hoping to have multiple calibers for the 1911....just change out the barrel, recoil spring and magazine and you could have 38 super, 9mm and even 22lr in the colt, along with the 45 acp...that would be a super battery of calibers on one frame....More Preppers should take notice of the Blackhawks with interchangeable cylinders so they can have 2-3 calibers available in one gun........just a thought...

yes they have....i agree...i just think the standard metal jacketed 9mm is less lethal than .45 standard 230 grain metal jacketed bullet. I also do not subscribe to the 15 round "spray and pray" philosophy. I knew guys in Viet Nam who would fire off a clip of 223 and hope they got the enemy. I am of the school...." one round...one bad guy going down"....I usually got 7 targets with a a 45 magazine...loaded with 7 rounds.
