Do it the easy way. Buy a tube of Blue Wonder Cleaner. Brownells and Midway carry it, about $10. It will remove surface rust and not remove the bluing. Should work on SS

Good quality stainless steel don't rust. Things resting on it that rust will leave a stain that you should be able to rub out. If it's the stainless steel of the revolver get a good quality stainless cleaner for restaurants it will be safe for your revolver & you.
For some rust on metal, I saw a short segment using electrolysis. I have no idea if it would work on a gun or how long it actually would take to work, if indeed it would work. Has anyone heard of this method and actually have seen it work vs a speedup on TV?
I had alittle of rust on my sr9c untainted slide when going it within the holster for a protracted time. I used 0000 wire wool to require the rust off and it didn't amendment the surface end of the gun in the slightest degree. i might suggestthat methodology, it had been fast and simple.
I had a bit of rust on my sr9c stainless slide after leaving it in the holster for a long time. I used 0000 steel wool to take the rust off and it did not change the surface finish of the gun at all. I would recommend that method, it was quick and easy.
Steel wool will not embed in gun steel. Simply wipe the gun off.
