I just encountered some info on a Chiappa .22 LR lever action rifle that looks like a Marlin 39 and take down is the same but the internals are quite different. Has anyone examined one of these rifles? If so what is your opinion? I left my Marlin in Texas where we have been shooting hogs in traps with it and thought of the Chiappa as a replacement.
I have one of their 1892 clones and it is a finely made rifle that fired thousands of 44-40’s at cowboy shooting matches, parts interchange with Winchester’s.
Danwin, I ordered the rifle and expect to pick it up Saturday. The standard model is a straight stock and blue receiver, my ffl friend says he will give it to me for $300 OTD. Of course that does not include the breakfast I must buy him that morning. I will put a few rounds through it and give a report here.
Received the Chiappa .22 lever rifle today and can say I am impressed, beautiful but utilitarian wood, Matt blue throughout, smooth action, 18.5” barrel, easy takedown and shot the first fifty rounds without incident bouncing vege cans, did not have time to set up paper before cold windy rain. My FFL friend gave it to me for $283 OTD.
Not quite the finely machined quality of my 1958 era Marlin but certainly a modern version using castings etc. If it stands up to use half as well as the Marlin I will be thoroughly satisfied.
I have about 300+ rounds of Federal ammo run through this little Rifle and some little bitty bitty groups were the result along with the perforated cans. Very happy with The Rifle so far.
Groups groups what kind of group? 3/4" at ten yards...........fifty yards??? In the market for a decent 22 lever gun, any details on this offering would be appreciated
I had a pistol target at 25 yds so I used that, did not take photos and shot from a sitting position with a couple of groups one to one and one half inches. This is a gravel pit not a formal range so remainder of shots offhand at small chunks of bricks knocking them all over the place or turning them into red dust.
I shot it several days later and noticed the magazine tube had backed out of the receiver. I removed the forearm and put a thin shin between the wood and tube, replaced the forearm and secured it. Seems ok now it has sat with a full mag of ammo pushing up but no movement for the past week.
You think you have it bad, I have given all the grandkids Henry’s, my buddy’s kid one and my best friend an engraved one. I just ordered a Standard Henry for me because they sold me a cover with a saddle ring on it and need a rifle to put it on I only have an I pad computer and have never been able to post photos ( not very computer savvy).
That seems like a neat rifle ( Chiappa) and hopefully it will hold up through the years.

The Henry is a unique design and I have bought at least eight for gifts, made in USA and bulletproof.
The Chiappa is an import, looks like a straight stock Marlin 39, unique in action and fun to shoot.
If I could buy just one it would be the Henry and a smile to boot.
I have a 1952 production Marlin 39, and a Henry Goldenboy. I got the Goldenboy after trading my earlier Henry H001 to my hunting buddy. He loves it.
I have a couple dozen twentytwo rifles, from 1930s production to modern. But I am always ready to try another interesting rimfire.
Big dog, For a long time I thought the old .22's were the only well made rifle going, like you I collected Win 90, 06, 03, 57, Remington Mod 34, 513, 513T, Marlin 39 ( always wanted the Carbine but never did get it) so then I got more modern with a DPMS dedicated AR 22, a couple of 15-22's, Colt AR 22 (Umarex) replica MP 44 in .22 and about six jillion pistols. The Chiappa is filling the bill of the Marlin Carbine and after giving away six Golden Boy's, one Henry pump and a H001 I finally will have an H001 with saddle ring for myself.
I love shooting .22's and as long as I leave the AR's and other boomers at home the rimfire will get quite a workout. This summer my buddy and I have been shooting out of an Ammo Can with 3000 loose Federal .22's inside, the Can is about 20% full now and may get emptied if the snow holds off.
If you can find the opportunity to check out the Chiappa .22 I think you will be impressed.
