My bestest shooti' buddy once let a feller at the range try a shot with a .45ACP through his chrony. Yep, he shot THROUGH the chrony! OUCH!
He replaced a part inside and got it working again, missed the critical circuitry. He still uses it, with the big hole in the box.
I can say I haven't done it but mine was easy to fix.
I just hammered out the wire & a little braze, it was good as new.
I also found out that my crony works better on cloudy days because it doesn't need the shade. So there is nothing to shoot.
No but probably because I don't own one. I did prop across the bed of my pickup and put a hole in the top of the bed with an 8 MM Mauser. The weird thing is it went in the top but didn't come out the side. You'd think an 8 MM would just blow on through from a couple of feet away but it followed the curve of the bed and didn't come out the bottom either. It's still rattling around in there somewhere.
Yep, blasted the support leg. Ordered a few extra just in case. Then the electronics crapped out, just my luck. Never did shoot my Caldwell before I sold it, now I use a Megnetospeed, kind of hard to shoot it but not impossible.
When I killed my Chrony I was shooting that Pedersoli Rolling Block I mentioned in a previous post. I'd had chamber cut for the 45-120-3 1/4 and was checking a load, 110 grs. of GOEX Ctg. under a 520 gr. Lyman bullet. I KNEW I was getting close to the bottom of the rods/top of the Chrony but was obviously pretty certain I was still clear. When yellow metal and plastic parts came falling from the sky I "figgered I figgered wrong". I am much more careful with my Pact and have had it....a long time.
I've only had one chronograph until recently. Pacy MK III timer. Never shot it. I read all the stories about guy's shooting their's and make's me extra cautious. New one I just got is a Magnetospeed. Can't see how this one could be shot? I have never used my Pact while working up loads, only after I got a load I wanted and then was concerned with velocity. Oh, and I've never shot a handgun through it either.
I have not, but I've been at the range 3 different times when other guys shot theirs. Makes me really careful with mine.
