Can I get a consensus for 22LR ammo fired out of a 3.5” pistol barrel for defensive use ?

I really like the idea of the Agulia 60 gr sobsonic, but in my gun the bullets are key holing at 10’.

I don't know if you'll get a consensus but my opinion is that it beats a sharpened stick.

    In self-defense, a hit with a .22lr is far better than a miss with a .44mag.

If I were to use 22LR for SD, I'd select ammo with the highest muzzle energy. For example, CCI SGB delivers 135 ft-lb, the Aguila subsonic 60gr gives 120 ft-lb. With the miniscule 22LR, you need all the help you can get.

If I was to have to rely on a 22lr for self defense it would be CCI Velocitor 40 grain IF it functioned well in my pistol.

That round will bounce off a jacket or thick clothes.
You may want to rethink your caliber choice but it's your life.

Oh boy, I hope we don’t hear about that darn bear that was killed with a 22LR...........again. Yes a hit with a 22 is better than a miss with a .38 but a hit with a .38 is better than a hit with a 22 and a hit with a 45 is better than a hit with a 38. Can a 22LR be effectively used for SD I suppose the answer is why of course. Are there better choices? Absolutely!

This would be my last choice for self-defense. You can kill with a 22lr but it may be a day later. My minimum self-defence load is 9mm.

Right now all I have is a itty bitty Walther P22 and a custom Sako bolt action specialty pistol with a 14” barrel in 6mmPPC. I live in MI which allows open carry in public. I am not going to walk around in public with the Sako slung over my shoulder.

I am considering a Taurus C2S or G2C depending on which fits my hand better as soon as the retailers get in some more so I can try them. In the mean time, I have the P22. With all the craziness of riots, I never really felt a need to carry out in public in the past.

Its all about placement with the .22. I know many Leo's that carry a .22 as a back-up.

As others have said, it wouldn't be my first choice, but if that's what you have, it beats nothing. Before you commit to the Taurus, check out the Walther CCP.

Yes it's better than nothing but only by a little bit.
If you shoot someone with a .22lr it will piss them off enough they will come back to you, take the gun away from you & beat the **** out of you with the gun.
The only thing a .22 can do is if you let the bad guy have his way with you first & then get close enough you can get a point blank shot to his head you will stop him.
A small .22lr pistol probably cost more than a on sale .380 or 9mm & if you train anyone can handle a .380 or 9mm.

If I had to use a .22 for self defense, subsonic ammunition would be my very last choice. Subsonic .22 ammo is better than a pellet gun - but not by a whole bunch. Better than blanks, though... Subsonic ammo is meant to be quieter than regular .22 ammo, but for self defense why would you care about the decibel level?
