Some time ago this forum was most helpful educating me on an old family H&R. Post HERE.

Some time has passed. I cast reload 44 Rem Mag and 30-30. I had thought about doing some small qty reloading for the H&R Breaktop in 32 S&W. I can't use factory ammo. I get that. Setting up for maybe 100 light firings is silly but I am thinking of doing just that. I have shell holder so that is 10%. Now I need to pick up a die set. Sadly eBay is the likely source as I don't want to invest in a NEW die set. I load single stage.

My question, will dies made for 32 S&W long (.920 case length) work on a 32 S&W which is .600? I would assume so but, the die sets say S&W Long or Mag and they may not work. Silly question but I could not find it addressed specifically here and caution is always prudent when reloading.

I have read on another forum that 32 S&W Long dies are too long to crimp 32 S&W. I found that forum a bit "cowboy" for my taste so I am posting here were I have had thoughtful and accurate advice. I read that Lee 32 ACP are short enough to crimp 32 S&W. All this tends to make me want to just put it back in the safe and forget about it.

Thanks!

This question kinda got to me so I went out to the shop and checked the dies --
My RCBS 32 long dies will size and seat but will NOT crimp a 32 S&W.
But, so what -- the 32 does not have to be crimped -- recoil is too puny --
Also, why not use regular factory ammo -- I have in my old top breaks --
I am more worried about proper cylinder indexing than the puny fact ammo.

I use the Lyman 4 die set for my 32's and had no problem crimping the 32SW. I did about 15 rounds for Josh awhile back for testing; they shot great. I didn't put much crimp on them, mainly just removed the flare.
