I bought a .45 percussion black powder rifle which has made in Belgium stamped on the timber. It has ELG in a oval with a star underneath the letters. It also has the numbers 11.4 stamped outside the oval. It was bought into Australia by The Green River Rifle Company before 1980 as the company stopped bringing them in in 1980. I will try and upload a photo. Wayne.

I am wondering about how old this rifle is and what do the markings mean.

Ahhh...ok. Pictures of the rifle in its entirety would help. Also, are those the only two stamps on the barrel?

Obviously the ELG in an oval is the acceptance proof mark of Belgium and I suspect the 11.4 to be the caliber in mm as 11.4mm = .4488 inches. As far as its age you already know more about it than me.

As far as I know Doc White started up Green River Rifle Works in the late 1960's or very early 70's.

If your Rifle is a GRRW rifle it couldn't pre date the formation of the company.
