have been looking at a 458 lott a buddy has. he can no longer shoot it, wants to get out of it. ( unsure of model.. only seen it once )

anyway.. he has no more ammo.

locally, finding 458 lott is going to be virtually out of the question.

i have found a couple places that will special order me some hornady, in exchange for my house, car and all my posessions :) ;)

i see i can get it from ammo2go .. but i really need to wait for a bulk ammo order before placing one.

he has read somewhere that a 458 lott chamber is completely safe to chamber and fire a 458 win mag in.

there is 1 store locally that DOES happen to stock 458 win mag.

would do for a test if it's safe and or otherwise carries no downsides .. etc

what say ye?

No problem shooting 458 lott in 458 win mag chamber. Thank ..shooting 38 in 357 handgun.
the question was.. is it safe to shoot 458 win mag in a 458 lott..NOT is it safe to shoot a 458 lott in a 458 win mag!!

from your posting would have to assume it is NOT safe??

I think John323 means the reverse. .458 Win Mag can be fired in a .458 Lott chamber, but not the reverse. The Lott is about 3/10 inch longer than the .458 Win Mag.

So Sound Guy can safely fire the Win Mag in his rifle if the correct cartridges cannot be found.

I was thinking I might rechamber my Ruger no.1 for the Lott but after shooting that thing so much, I'm just fine with .458 win mag! I've not run into any issues with compressed charges and I often crimp heavily anyway. 4064 and others just fill the case right up to about where the bullet sets with my favorite loads.

she kicks like a mule, no doubt there. Thanks for the info, I had not thought of shooting .458's in a lott rifle.

and you're not kidding about the price; cheapest ones I've ever seen were about $66/box of 20, most run about $120+

freakin' ridiculous, I can reload them for about 35 cents each, never fired a commercial round outta mine and likely never will!

yep. and those 450winmag ar only 40$ / 20 at the local pawn shop.

that saved me from special ordering a 80$ box and $hipping of 458lott just to check the gun out..

the 458win mag might fire a lil light.. but heck.. maybee i will fire 458win mag thru it ALOT instead of the shoulder breaking 458lott

IF i even get the dern thig...

.458 either win mag or Lott won't dissapoint in the recoil department!

I named my Ruger no. 1 'the Tenderizer'

it's dangerous at both ends

Its one of those "140 pound man firing a 14 pound rifle, that shoots a 1400 grain bullet traveling 1400 fps at a 14 ton elephant.. Whichever one gets up first is the winner"

I aint shootn it.. Voluntarily..
