While in Korea I carried a 1911 and either a Carbine or Thompson (M1A1) and at no time did I feel that either was overrated, today obviously there are more modern designs (the Thompson is 100 years old) and certainly lighter weapons to carry but for me nostalgia is a great decider.

I have the M-N, not a great gun, but it is the rifle that broke Nazi Germany.

Sound guy, Would you take off your parka at 40 below with a 40 mile an hour wind just to put deodorant under your arm pits? The Mosin actually worked under those conditions.

I'm not sure what your point is?

    I said:

I'm not sure how your parka comment applies here. It sounds like you are trying to chide me.. yet, if you would actually re-read and attempt to understand my post, instead of performing a "kneejerk left liberal media reaction" to it.. you'd find, that you AGREED with what i said. The firearm was well suited for its area, and for those that used it.

Sorry no left wing anything intended and the levity of taking your clothing off to wash under Siberian weather conditions was missed by you. I do agree with your analogy and apologize if I caused you undue turmoil.

If you don't want levity to be missed, use an emoticon, that's what they are for.

I'm pre emoticon as well, the only operating systems available when I was growing up were command line interfaces.

Some of the stuff I worked on didn't have full ascii even, or caps only terminals.

Emoticons are for graphical user interfaces, not CLI. I dont consider a colon and a parentheses an emoticon, though I am completely familiar with all those text based/pre graphics shortcuts, and would have recognized one had it been used.... But it wasn't used, so moot point.
