What are you shooting them in? Shot 22 CF's years ago and those 50SX will blow up in the air at 3500fps. Didn't believe it so took some out and tried them. Those old Hornady SX's were really good bullet's, just very fragile. Turned my old 222 Rem into a real killer! The only V-Max bullet's I've used are 75 gr in a 243. Very explosive!

During my Pdog days I swore by Vmaxs. My M77V Swift used 50 grainers over 49.0 4064, 3960 or so at 12 feet, probably an easy 4000 at the muzzle, sub 1/2” at 100 all day. And it did “bad things” to the ‘dogs.😎

My “walking around rifle” was a Mossberg Predator 5.56. For some reason it preferred the 60 gr Vmaxs over I forget how much Varget...when I got it to 1/2” I stopped working on it, I think I can get it tighter if I work at it more but it’s good enough for now.

The entire 6 years I shot dogs with both rifles I always wondered how 55gr Vmaxs would have worked in both so I could buy one bullet in bulk but never got around to trying it in either.

And yeah, Hornet bullets work for .222, but push to 3000-3300 in even a .223 and they can “vaporize” before they get to the target. Push it to 3500+ in a .22-250 and you will get close to 100% “blow ups.” I’ve seen it happen. A buddy loaded some 45 grain in both one year to test them.

Leave them for the Hornet or .222😎.

The GOOD news is those fragile bullets in a Hornet also do “bad things” to Pdogs.
