    hi,
i was wondering if anyone can tell me if New York state has co-owner carry permits.
like if me and my wife both have carry permits , can we have the same firearms on our permits?

Interesting question, and one it would never occur to me to ask. In the USA, there is no such thing as gun registration so, living in Arizona, I know nothing of such illegal acts. I learn something every day...:)

Years ago we asked this question of the NYSP on behalf of a husband and wife who were applying for permits (target & hunting), and wanted the same two pistols they were buying (.22 & .357 as I recall) listed on each others' permits. In Westchester County you had to buy the pistol, leave it with the dealer, list the make/model/caliber/number on your application, then pick up that specific pistol when the permit was issued. The State PD said it was okay, and the county went along with the ruling, but things change over time. As an example of the County changing its mind on pistol permit matters: at one time the NYSP advised owners of TC Contenders to list the caliber as "multi" on their initial or amended permit applications. The County went along with it for a while, till one of the legislators got a bee in his or her bonnet, and after that Contender owners had to list each barrel on their permit. Best advice I could offer would be to pose the question to the NYS Police in Albany.

That decision seems to be on a county by county basis. The NYSP may see things differently, but check with the pistol permit clerk in the county you are in.

I Texas, the pistols are not listed, if your marksmanship is with a revolver, then your permit is for revolver only, it you use a semi-automatic then you can carry either one.

tedwitt, that rule has changed. You can test with either and carry either.

In Illinois you can carry any handgun you can conceal. No gun is listed on your licence.

If you and your wife has a pistol permit carry or hunting both of you can have the same guns on them.
This is good for direct family members only.
There is no co-owner permits you just use your regular permit.

And in Texas you can carry as many as you want. In class our instructor had 7 concealed for example as to show proper concealment, nobody guessed how many he had.

You can carry any or all the guns on your permit in NY.
When I went to the mall with the family to do Christmas shopping I had my .45 on my side my .380 in my back pocket a .357 on my ankle and my .40 on my chest. All with extra mags and the .357 I had 3 pre loaded holders..

Somebody needs to explain to me the logic behind having to list firearms on a carry permit.
