I have purchased a couple of Henry-Martini's from a vendor here at Bagram AB and they check out to be legit British rifles. I will make a separate post for them. I am interested in buying a Jezail but the guy is asking quite a bit of money for the "real" ones. This one has a rather large bore diameter, as it should (I didn't measure it, but it is larger than .50 cal for sure.) The bore is also rifled. Before I go back to debating the price with him, I would like to get any information or opinions you might have about this particular rifle. Thank you for your time.
I already read that site and the gun still checks out. I'm looking for first hand experience, I've already exhausted the google. Thank you though, any other advice would be appreciated.
I would not touch it due to the barrel bands not being contured. Also the wood seems to be a little too good considering the poor wood to metal fit. It may be real or it may be fake . Not knowing which , I wouldn't pay any more than if it were a tourist piece.

I was stationed in Camp Eggers in 2006 and you could pick up a good Snider Enfield or Martini Enfield for $150-$300. I picked up a nice 2 band Enfield MK II for around $150 that I have fired.
In 2010, I was stationed in Bagram and most of the good stuff had been picked over. There were some shops near the PX and a bazaar near the and most of what they had was fake. You need to pay close attention to the stampings and the wear. It is highly unlikely a flintlock made in the 1800's, in Afghanistan would have a lock that clean.
I bought some Pattern 1853 Enfields from the a guy at the Bazaar near the south gate off Disney and the stuff turned out to be put parted together. They looked good, but when I got home and took them apart they had Snider stocks, welded barrels, etc. I even had them take off the lock and remove the barrel so I could see the stampings underneath. I would be very wary of the Martini Enfield's you bought. It was my understanding most of this stuff was thrown together at Chicken Street in Kabul.
I think all you are going to find over there is wall hangers that can never be fired. You have to think, we have been in Afghanistan for 17 years, there have been a lot of soldiers that have brought back an 'antique' rifle. Save your money and buy some nice gemstones. You can get some really nice deals if you know what you are looking for.
I must agree with the above comments. It's not a real antique.
It is nice to see the locals are producing better quality fakes. Maybe someday they will produce high quality reproductions, signed by the artists, which people can shoot and appreciate like we do the contemporary Kentucky rifles. But, alas it seems I'm dreaming..... never mind.
Which stores are you at? There were some trailers around the main PX and most of what they had was reproduction. I bought some flintlock pistols there, but after I broke them apart, I realized they were reproductions and got my money back.
There was another bazaar that I forgot about on the SF compound, kind of near Tuna Bridge off Disney. It was like a complex under one roof.
There was also a big bazaar near the south gate and I mentioned that was a bunch of trailers. I dealt with the guy who sold guns there.

Sorry to jump in on this thread, but i dont know where to start. I have some type musket and i am trying to see if anyone can help provide any information on type authenticy. I see no marking on the musket at all. I will post a few picks. It is not in good shape so want to know if it can be restored, or become a wall hangar. Any advice appreciated.
