Just heard on the news that there was an attack on the Liberty Sun. I don't get it. Can't the U.S. just sink these ships? It's not like they are foriegn military.

Yes, why aren't we squashing pirates left and right like the bugs they are?? They prey on anyone that passes by, gaining ransom funds in the hundreds of millions of dollars. The whole situation is kind of ridiculous considering the power of the U.S. military....

Six well armed and well trained guards on each ship would break this crap up. By well armed I mean WELL armed. Mama Deuce and larger.

Several of the ships in the area that have been attacked/borded are in the area giving food aid from the US & other countries. That food either gets to refugees or is hijacked by warlords & sold. The African countries won't allow the ships to be armed. African people buy "shares" in the pirates sorties. If the pirates succeed in getting a million dolar ransom they pay the shareholders who finance thier trips. Seems to me the governments want the ransom money to flow, the free food aid to flow & arming the ships would stop all that. The area to patrol four times the size of Texas.
Maybe we should stop sending food?

Geez, you'd think if we were sending aid we could use the old 'my way or the highway' routine. "If you want the aid then we have the right to protect our interests as well". Back in the day even merchant ships had cannon right?

Just one well armed person per boat that knew what they were doing would do the job.

    Exactly!

I just don't get the 'armed personel' arguement.
    1) If visiting ports don't like it, stop visiting!
    2) If the problem lies with armed personel, just fix mount them!

Some folks priorities are really screwed up.

    You want free aid?
There's plenty of folks starving right here in the good ole USA!

We CAN stop shipping you freebies.

We have tried o help these people before, in 1993 (see "Blackhawk Down), and it was a fiasco. They are still comporting themselves in the same manner. The "skinnies" don't know or understand anything but force. The US has every right to protect itself and its' citizens, so why not do it?
BTW, the news has reported that this was the 1st time since 1803 that a US flagged ship was boarded. Not so. In 1968, the USS Pueblo was boarded and seized by N. Korea. In 1975, th SS Mayaguez was boarded by Cambodians. We negotiated for the release of the Pueblo's crew and rescued the crew of the Mayaguez. TJ

as pissed off as I am about i too, you gotta realize the coast they are operating off of is about 1,500 miles and are getting out to about 250 miles off shore. Thats a big damn area, about the size of the eastern seaboard. I dont think it can be done effectively with the amount of Naval assets currently assigned to that region.

You guys are missing the point here! These folks are "criminals"! Criminals have rights! You can't just go around killing criminals, they must be afforded a fair trial. With a fair sentence. Something like 15 years in a prison in the U.S. where, you and I, get to pay for their food, clothing, and shelter, not to mention their education, medical health, and conjugal visits! Remember, these are people, they have rights too! I really hope you guys know that I am being facetious. The real problem, as we all know, is the liberal, socialist scum bags all over the world that rule this country at present, and wish to rule the world in the future!

As bad as all this is, it's a distraction from the things we need to worrying about, namely Bamo's spending, right grabbing and whatever else the Congress is up to. We should have armed guards and weaponry on board to deal with any situation that might arise off this coast. Pirates are not high on the concerns of this country. TJ

That is a good point. It should be dealt with, but it shouldn't derail us from more crucial matters. Blow them out of the water and move on. They don't need to be seeing themselves on U.S. broadcast it will just fuel their fire.

LOL, I got news for ya. A 12 year old kid with an AR-15 and plenty of ammo could deter these clowns. It's not hard.

These guys are cowards - that's why they're attacking UNARMED ships. As soon as the ships begin arming themselves, this crap will stop.

Hmmmmm, wonder if the would work on land too....with like, the general public and all? Hmmmmmmmmm. :D:eek::rolleyes:

In the running battle of October, 1993, we lost 19 while the "skinnies" lost about 5000!! No, they aren't the best shots in the world. TJ
