I didn't have the money to try for one this time around. I know that ccHolderinMaine sent in all of the paperwork. I don't recall him ever saying if he hot one or not.
Mine got there on the day. 1 of the 5k that made it on day 1 for the 2k rifles. Sadly, I have received no dbu and as of 1 minute ago, no magically appearing estore order.
I'm a CMP junkie, they have not sent out dear Johns yet so there is STILL HOPE
Bad indication though is that my check is not cashed.....has always meant your letter has not been opened. Speculation is all the winners have at least been opened even though it appears not all have been notified as folks post up that they are still getting dbus up to this week.
This will be the first limited release that I've tried for that I haven't gotten I cannot complain though. I have been incredibly lucky thus far.
Fingers still crossed...
I am now officially out. I received my personal dear John letter yesterday complete with my check having hand written void across the front of it.
Oh well, such is life. So far I cannot complain, until this one I've hit on every CMP special release I've tried for.
I recently spoke to a guy who arrived at 7:30am on the appointed morning in Port Clinton. He said that there were already about 300 people in front of him then, some of whom had been waiting since 4:30am. He said that he finally got into "the room" at about 11:30. He said that his feet felt as if there were nearly frozen. He didn't have to say that he didn't get a carbine.
Getting an authentic M1 Carbine from CMP is a lot like buying an AKC puppy. You get more value for one with the papers. I am not saying it is not worth it at all. They can be a great bargain with the prices people ask for Carbines these days.
As far as M1 Carbines, I guess I'm a 'mutt' kind of guy. I like the original WW2 era GI Carbines. I've had a couple of the 'clones' (National Ordinance and a Universal) and didn't care for the Universal. I've owned 4 originals - 1 National Postal Meter, 1 Winchester and 2 Inlands. All have been Arsenal Rebuilds. All have been 'mutts' because of that process, and 3 were around the $200-$300 mark while the Winchester was closer to $500.
A service grade carbine delivered to your door was $685. And that included IBMs, RockOlas, NPMs, Winchesters, etc. as well as Inlands.
Where can you buy genuine, non- import marked carbines for anywhere close to that these days?
The market for Garands and carbines might be a lot higher these days than you recall.
Everything I've ever purchased from the CMP (plenty) has come at between somewhat and a ton less than market price.
I am not looking for safe queens. I am interested in guns I can shoot. From what I have seen, they want too much for what they sell. I'm not a collector, I want to shoot them.
I've purchased 7 Garands and 1 carbine from the CMP. I shoot every one of them. Every one of them came to me at a price that I could have easily flipped for profit. This is why they limit you to 10 rifles and 2000 rounds of ammo per year.
To each his own!
It would be nice to be able to do that. Living from check to check makes that impossible.
