Went home to Alpine Texas to visit my folks and hoping to get some Aoudad hunting done but plans for hunting were nixed due to several fires around the hunting area and the 30 plus mile an hour winds did not help. Here are some pictures, these are about 24 miles from where my folks live.

This is a night picture of another fire started by lightning. At the lower right you will see a dome structure which happens to be the McDonald's observatory in Fort Davis Tx. which is about 30 miles from where my folks live. By this time more than twelve thousand acres had burned but was hard to contain fire due to winds. After a couple of days the winds died and fire was contained. We decided to postpone the hunting until September when I will see my folks again.

Thanks, all in all there were 4 fires that started while I was there. A couple of them were started by the railroad train from sparks and the other by Mother Nature.

Fires in the Palo Duro have scorched thousands of acres now. JA Ranch lost lots of rangeland. Fires to the North and East lately, most of the range to the West has already burned...sure do need some rain!

Where are you guys in Amarillo and the surrounding are getting your water now? When I was young we had great water from the Ogallala aquifer, but then did the Lake Meredith project and I don't think that has worked out so well. Just curious.

I had to look up what the hell a Aoudad was. It crazy you have those roaming around Texas.
