Anyone see the Bonneville Speed Week documentary on TV this week?

I can't stop thinking about the young 17 year old young lady (a looker at that) who was trying to qualify for her Bonneville license. (She's been driving on the street less than a year.) Its a multistep process and she had to go between 125 and no more than 150 MPH for the first step. Later she'll have to qualify for the 175MPH+ Bonneville license.

Well, her first run ever in her uncle's 200+ MPH streamliner she went 175MPH and broke out of her qualification category and had to repeat the run, trying to keep it under 150 MPH. She succeeded the second time but think of that : 17 years old and going 175 MPH. And she'll be back next year probably going 200+ MPH in search of a record!

    It Is great to see:
    * youths interested in speed sports, especially one of the classics like land speed record chasing where the average competitor and the his team are close to senior citizens age

    * and young women infiltrating what has been basically a man's sport due to social stigmas of women in racing.

    Minn-eeee-sota, ya, sure, you bet!
    Good for her!

A racing buddy of mine, Jan Guthrie, was the first woman to drive in the Indy 500 and Daytona 500, and most of the "regulars" and "good ol' boys" were less than helpful.
