I ran across a used CZ 52 design pistol in a local gun shop. I like the 7.62 x 25 round, so this caught my attention. It doesn't say CZ though. Instead, it says it was manufactured by BRNO. The guy at the counter told me that BRNO became CZ. I personally don't know the history there. Maybe I'm totally confused?

Anyway, it was in pristine condition except for the grips. The grips looked to be a bakelite material and showed some scratches, but were not horrible. The metal work was very nice though. Maybe it had been reblued?... I don't know.

Anyway, I got a picture of the serial number and other import info on the frame. It was imported by CAI. I was hoping that the serial might possibly tell me a date of manufacture to figure out some more about its history. The serial was M13282, but maybe that's just a number assigned at import? Again, I don't know.

Can someone shed some light on this BRNO/CZ connection? Pardon my ignorance. I usually come with a little bit more information before asking questions, but I'm stumped here. They wanted $450 for it and that seems reasonable based on what I'm seeing online for CZ 52s. I didn't get a full picture of it and I know folks will want that for values, but the value is secondary to my questions. I'd like to know when this might have been made.

DOM is stamped on the other side over the trigger. Made 1952-1954, it will be two digits, 52,53, or 54. It was originally designed for 9mm Luger in the late 1940's. It's real Model is VZ-52, but since they already had a rifle with that model number, it was named the CZ-52. CZ bought out BRNO in 2008.

pony, if you haven't pulled it apart and got it back together again, somewhere I have a pictorial "how to". That roller locking system can give you fits. Surplus ammo will split almost every case neck fired, nature of the beast, and no harm done to the gun. Russian is the lowest pressure, everything else runs about 10k CUP higher including the commercial stuff. There's some Czech subgun ammo that's way too hot, avoid that stuff!

Thanks! I haven't bought it... Yet... :ROFLMAO: They aren't open again until Tuesday. Hopefully, I can talk myself out of this before then. :)

UN-enabling won't be tolerated!:giggle:
I got mine on a deal I couldn't refuse. They're heavy for a handgun, about 2lbs empty. The slide assembly sits a little higher than most, so recoil tends to rock it in your hand. It's pleasant to shoot though, and mine is extremely accurate.

I had one but didn't much care for it. I had no complaints about quality, accuracy or functionality and back then ammo was way too cheap to even think about loading for it. For my hand the grip was too deep and I didn't like the grip I could get on it. I didn't have much in it and gave it to a young friend who admired it. I think I gave him about as much ammo as the pistol was worth back then.

If it's still there, I may call Tuesday morning to get them to hold it for me because they said they would. They said a collector sold it to them and it's been there a month. I just think it's purdy and shoots that hot little cartridge. :p

I doubt many folks around here are even interested in that 7.62x25 cartridge.
