First and foremost, thanks for allowing me to here. I have this Colt Woodsman. By serial number, I believe it a 1936. I also think its a first edition target model ( I could be wrong). Based on the pictures and information, what would this be worth? Im a retired peace officer and don't collect guns (crazy, right?) I inherited this gun and have no one to leave it to so, I'd think I'd like to sell but have no idea what its worth.
I just joined this site and just want to say thanks.
Tapered barrel SN 90,000-187,423. This would be a targe model I believe. Adjustable front sight was implemented in 1937, which yours has. Add 10% to the value below for adjustable front sight.
100%=1800 (never fired, with box), 98% = 1300, 95%=750, and goes down from there.
Based on the few photos you have, I'd say 95% condition.
Of course this is blue book, "Market" value might get more or less.
Example of market value, this active auction is fetching $700+ with less than 24 hrs less.
Your value is somewhere in between what this sells for and book. http://www.*********.com/item/626130967
I just noticed the difference between the 1936 and 1937 front sights.
Perhaps someone else knows more about them. This is a bucket list pistol for me, that and the Colt Super 38 around that same era.
I did a "google" search on the serial number and it listed the gun as a 1936. Not sure if that's accurate or not. I know my grandfather had it and he was born in 1906... that's all I know about it other than it was well taken care of...
Just curious, do you not have anyone to hand it down to? (Family)
Personally speaking, the rifles/pistols handed down to me go to the next generation of my family, regardless of value.
Well, okay, MAYBE if I had General Eisenhower's personal firearm, I'd sell that....
if the backstrap has oval checkered area it is not suitable to fire high speed ammo. Standard velocity only. If the backstrap has horizonal lines across it is ok for high velocity ammo
