Let's just say that I in no way look like the concealed carry holster models. I have struggled with the best way to conceal a medium or large frame pistol with my build. Anything forward of three o'clock digs into my belly, and the cloths I normally wear for work won't really allow for owb. Also, I can only carry iwb if I can tuck in my shirt. That pretty much leaves me with the option of pocket carry or ankle carry. Both of which which limits me to small mouse guns.
Does anyone have suggestions for an iwb holster that would allow for a tucked shirt?
I was over at my LGS yesterday. This exact conversation came up with the owner. We are about the same size, and that ain't skinny. When I ask him about some kind of IWB holster for my P938, he said to me that he and I were in the same boat, patted his belly, pulled his .38 out of his front pocket and told me that there was no comfortable IWB holster for the likes of us.
I wear hawaiian shirts 99% of the time to cover my belly and my P938 in a Fobus type holster.
Thanks Possum Belly, I was looking at the crossbreed link you put up. A couple of questions, if you don't mind:
What are V-clip and J-hooks?
How does that fit inside the pants?
I have never had an IWB holster so they might be stupid questions, but I can't see how it fits in the pants.
Scroll down and look at the pics on this link. This is the Crossbreed but I really like the Alien Gear better. Longer warranty/ more options and much cheaper. If you were to use it on autos VS revolvers, you can just buy the shell to fit different auto pistols and not have to buy the entire holster each time. They don't offer that for revolvers.
There are NO more IWB comfortable holsters out there than these twp companies. They are also tuckable. The clips fit on your belt and the holster inside the pants.
Thanks. I looked at a short video on the Alien gear site and I understand it now. I think I am going to order one of the Alien gear holsters. If I find that I don't like it, there is not a whole lot of money wasted as compared to the crossbreed.
Do you recommend the standard nylon clips or the steel clips?
No need to apologize. You asked the exact same questions I would have asked. I think I'm going to order one of the alien gear holsters tomorrow. I posted in another thread about a front pocket pistol, but if these work like they say, it will be a much cheaper (and imo better ) option.
I've hauled around a 1911 for years, and I'm considered to be obese. I use two systems with this pistol. The first is a Yaqui style holster, belt slide, with a size larger shirt to cover it. This is the one I use when wearing pants, with a belt. The second is the Smart Carry holster. I use this one when I'm in basketball shorts, T shirt, and flip flops, which is most of the time. The first picture is the Smart Carry system, and the 1911, the second one is the Yaqui style holster on the belt. You can't tuck in your shirt with belt holster, but you can with the Smart Carry. http://www.smartcarry.com/
I've got an Aliengear Cloak Tuck 2.0. I really like it, except when I'm driving. It is very comfortable other than that. I like that they offer to exchange the shell at no charge if you change firearms.
Well, Georgia is further South, than Tennessee. I had mine in a week. The deeper you go South, it seems, the more they're concerned about us folks who cling to our Bibles and Guns.
Just got myself a N8^2 (nate squared) tuckable iwb holster. Costs about 50 or 60 bucks and they make them for cirtually amy handgun you can think of. Rides a bit higher than the. Lackhawk I was using before so its taking a little getting used to but its great and you can tuck a shirt in with it. Check out their website.
Another line of thought on this matter from a 3XL guy:
I bought a tee shirt with built in holster on Amazon and Carry my G19 in it. Covers easily with any type of button front shirt and is very comfortable. It's the best way I've found to carry my LC9 as well. Love it!
Ok, finally someone who has one. I've been looking at those for a while. The ads say the shirts are three times smaller than your regular shirt, but stretch tight and will hold a handgun in place w/o stretching downward. I would carry a 4" 'combat size' S&W double-stack 9mm. Are you satisfied with the placement of your handgun?
I had a bad experience with Alien Gear last year. Ended up canceling my order and waited quite some time for the refund. Took several calls and a few emails to get it. in my experience their customer service was not nice or friendly or helpful.
They did not tell me up front the item I ordered was out of stock and would not be manufactured for several weeks. I learned this about a week after placing my order when I called to check on delivery. The CSR was aloof and that was irritating.
Not saying that's typical; just my experience with them.
One tubby tubby. Two tubby tubby. Don't get upset, I'm talking to myself. I have found several holsters that I can wear with the weapon (Glock 27, S&W Sigma 40, or Ruger LCP) on my hip tucked up against my large body, but recently I have gone to the pouch holsters for my weapons. The larger one is attached to a nylon belt. LIke a fanny pack or belly pouch. (of course I use it as belly pouch cause I couldn't reach it on my fanny) The access to the pistol is controlled by a cord hanging from the corner of the pouch. Pull the cord and the gun is available and ready to grab. Carries gun, magazine, wallet, medications, etc. For my LCP I went to Wal Mart's hunting section and found a pouch that holds wallet, gun, magazine, meds, and phone. Carry it like my little man purse. ( You can call me a "b1tch" but I'm armed! Both have easy access to the weapon. The little one opens similar, pull a cord and the pouch unzips. Only problem, I just have to be alert to becoming a victim of a "purse snatch". (In my mind I'm Tony Dorsett carrying a football into the end zone, no fumbles - no steals). Actually with my memory in jeopardy it is nice to have one bag to pick up and have everything. The large one even holds a flashlight, and I can attach my keys as I shop. Just something to think about. Then again there are always shoulder holsters. I just don't like them.
I might say that get used to the marks it leaves on the belly i carry, 1911 and i was used to it.. for a fat guy dont think of even using a ankle holstered gun.. you will won't have enough time to pull it out.
at 5'11" and 240. I use an Alien Gear with a Kahr CW45. Carried in the lowest position with the cant up 1 notch in the back carried at 4 o'clock or slightly farther towards my back., it is nearly invisible. You will like it. The Kahr is considered a compact I guess but sure doesn't shoot like one.
I've never seen so many grown men this anxious to stick something in their clothing!
