Picked this stock up at an auction, obviously the previous owner was building it to fit something. I am not quite sure what that is, I am more of a double barrell man. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Just a guess, perhaps stock was intended for a Savage action rifle since inletting done suggests it was for a rounded receiver. Find out the measurement between receiver screws for a Savage and compare it to your screw spacing.

It's not something I'm familiar with just by sight

It sure looks like it's inletted for a rimfire action...going by the small magazine cut in front of the trigger cut.
A picture or two with a ruler next to the stock for a scale reference might help someone narrow it down for ya too.

Not anything modern centerfire rifle. Recoil lug mortise is in the wrong place, if indeed the recess in the middle is a recoil lug mortise. I think BN nailed it. It looks like a rimfire inlet to me too.
