A buddy wanted me to ask you all about CVA's, Anyone got any experence with them?
My question why do I have to throw away my caps every year and buy new. If this is normal why so many in the tin. I love shooting the darn thing but cleaning after three shot's takes alot of the fun out of it. I can't imagine shooting 100 times season with it. I do love that big cloud of smoke though.

HI Dave, No I don't think you have to throw away your unused caps every year. I have a bunch that I have had for years, and they all go bang!

Shouldn't be any problem as long as you store them like you would powder and primers, i.e., cool, dry place.
Had mine for years, also - no problem.

When I went up to grand-son-in-law's folk's ranch to hunt this year, I took along the blackpowder 12ga. Primers in the possibles were over 5 years old. Made a very satisfying noise when I pulled the trigger.

I've only had the gun a couple seasons, First time out fine and dandy. I took it west 11 months later and no bang. I store them in an ammo can sealed tight. I ask the guy at the shop and he said "yeah you gotta buy new ones every year".
I have a Knight muzzle loader can I get a 209 upgrade for it?
Anybody have experience with CVA? Thanks Dave

Knight makes a 209 conversion for their inline ML rifles. The caps when properly stored will last a long time. Sounds like the gun shop was trying to make a buck.
After storage and before shooting, run a dry patch through the barrel to dry out any oil. Then pop a couple of caps BEFORE loading to get any oil out of the nipple and breach plug.
After cleaning, always check to see if the nipple is clear of any fouling. This should help.
