I put money down on a pre-model 10, S&W, 38spl. It has a 4 inch barrel, bluing is 70-80%, lock up is tight, and it is a 5 screw model. It's got some fake ivory grips on it right now. I was able to put it up at a price of $175.
I was wondering if anyone can tell me when it was made. The serial number is S 88502x.
    Thanks.

According to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, S 88502x was made sometime between 1945 to 1948.....most likely '47 or '48.

Sorry.....that's as close as I can get.
