a veterans exemption whereby veterans get a break on property/vehicle taxes? Our state does not. But it is my understanding that certain states do provide a tax exemption, typically for veterans of past wars. Before I approach a state legislator to see if he would be interested in sponsoring such a bill for our state, I wanted to make sure the rumors heard about other states having such laws was true. Thanks.

I know that West Virginia will forgive property taxes on the main residence if you are disabled vet, but I think it is a county opt in or out type thing.

Texas has an exemption for disabled vets, but not veterans in general. We do, however, have a Texas Veterans Land program, which, unlike the VA guaranteed loan is a direct loan from the state to buy a minimum of 5 acres, and we also have an education program which picks up when the GI bill education benefits run out.
