I have an original Sharps carbine and sometime in the past someone has messed with the main spring. I am looking for a competent gunsmith that I could send the lock to so that it can be repaired correctly and with period items.
I have one in my shop now that needs parts.
GOOD LUCK I have been looking for a couple of months and still have not found what I need.
Parts for these are not easily found.
Any good smith can do what you want but finding original parts is the hard part.

This is an old post, but reading it something struck me: Randy wants an original, period main spring for his Sharps. I see a problem with this: An old 1860-something spring has most likely suffered in strength and temper. Granted, it's not likely to ever be fired again, but being an internal part - and one that is designed to have spring value - it would make sense to fit one of the new springs to that lock.
You MAY find an old, original spring (MAYBE), but the odds are increased that the old spring will let-loose or snap if the action is worked. If the rifle is put behind glass, that will not happen, but that idea would certainly not appeal to me. Just a thought.
Dixie has the spring listed in their Parts, Original, Military-Breechloading 1859-63, 1874 Sharps section. Part number TP0235 @ $25.00.
