Hi-My Grandfather gave me a H&R model 922,6 inch barrel with the serial # C6697.Anyone know the year of manufacture?

According to information given by Mr. Bill Goforth,

… in 1940 H&R began using a letter code prefix to indicate year of manufacture.

So, beginning with “A” for a 1940 manufacture firearm - in progression, the letter “C” of your revolvers serial number indicates a 1943 manufacture date.
