Hello, I'm new to the forum. I need help to ID a revolver that I inherited from my father. I believe it's a H&R from the target logo on the grip.
The revolver is a short 38 caliber, 5 shot, double action, top break and auto-eject model. The grip appears to be the larger target style, not sure it's original to this model though.
If anyone can tell me what year and model this is, I would appreciate it greatly.
The serial # is 187117 if that is helpful.

I forgot to mention that it has a 4 inch barrel and no manufacturer name or caliber markings.
I saw another thread that Bill Goforth responded to. From his post, this is looking to be a pre-1905.

Welcome to TFF but sadly, H&R expert Jim Hauff passed away recently.

Your gun appears to be a shorter barrel .38 version of this one Jim identified as a 3rd model "Automatic":

(The "Automatic" tag referred to the auto ejection)

But odd that it's not marked with the H&R address on barrel rib, and wonder if it's been refinished.

Thanks for the response. This one's hard to pin down. It was originally nickel plated. My dad took the finish off and was going to have it re-plated by some people he used to work for. He said that he got it at a yard sale for cheap.
Now my dad is gone and I was going to look into restoring it, but I think it's too far gone. I'll probably put some grips on it that I'm bidding for on ebay, blue it and put it in a display case.
