I now have 7 1911's, consisting of 2, 70 Series Mark IV's, a Kimber Custom II, a Kimber Stainless Pro Carry HD, a Sig Nitron and a, 80's vintage Springfield Defender.
All but the Springfield are stock factory guns, and each of them shoots really well. The Springfield, however, was a project gun that I spent a couple of years and a lot of money on at the shop. Not being a gunsmith, I paid to have that gun built from the bottom up. Barrel, bushing, ramp, trigger, slide, mag well, checkering, sights, grips, even the finish. The finished product is beautiful and shoots great.
As nice as this gun is, I personally doubt that I'll ever build another one, there are just too many great factory guns out there now.
My question for you all is have you built or customized a 1911, or do you plan on doing so? If you have, would you do it again? What are your thoughts.
