I'm new to all of this, but hope to learn more over time. Got into learning about firearms through an interest in history, but own them only for self-defense and recreational target shooting. Later I hope to collect a few historical firearms (when I have the money for it, if that ever happens lol).

You sound like you'll be a great fit here! Interest in history, appreciation of the mechanics and development of intricate (and sometimes complex) devices known as 'firearms'. Going from one to the next in development is a study in the genius of the inventors, and the skills of workers who produced them over the ages.

As far as building a collection - be patient and take your time. It will happen. My own principal area of collecting is with the Springfield series of rifles and carbines into other U.S. martial arms. Also appreciate European arms from WW1 and WW2 - but mostly U.S. Springfields.
