I bought this muzzleloader in April. It has zero markings anywhere. I have looked at the lock plate, under the barrel, everywhere. I took it completely apart. It has a 32" octagonal barrel and brown finish. It is a .58. I happened to watch a Youtube video about bullet casting and the guy picked up a firearm that looked identical. He said his was a Connecticut Valley Arms. Any help you could give would be great.
I was offered 250 for my plain CVA Hawkins { but with two barrels } To be honest, I was surprised at the offer, looked it up in the current SCoF and it is listed 325 in Exc and 275 in VG.
I dunno about TC Hawkens, never heard of them using Douglas barrels but CVA did indeed use them on the early mountain rifles. I'm not sure who installed them since the guns were made in Spain. I assume they bought the guns sans barrels and maybe installed the barrels themselves. At any rate they were only used on the early mountain rifles and not for long.

That's a CVA Mt. rifle. they were excellent shooters, made in Spain as someone said, some had Douglas barrels and are worth a little more. I just sold a brand new one just like yours (without the patchbox) for $200) and a used one for $150 couple of yrs. ago. Usually they go for around $300 or so..
There's one for sale over on the Muzzleloader forum now for $550 and the guy is claiming it's worth $800 but it isn't. if your barrel is bright and shiny inside you got a great deal. Hank
frogg,
You've got a great gun!
It's worth whatever pleasure you get from it and I'm thinking it will prove to be priceless!
They may talk smack 'bout CVA but I've got a nest of 'em and they'll hold their own with T/C and the best.
Jimmy
