OK as DD pointed me to do it here...
I am set to buy a compact 9mm for CC duty. I went thru a good amount of handguns that might works for me.. but not sure which one is better. Here what I picked out: Springfeild XDS 9mm ( fits well) any issues with this one?
M&P Sheild 9 ( thin and nice better than Glock) did they resolved the trigger problem?
Bersa Eagle ( super light tigger, well balance) are any good?
walter ccp.. I am not wild how they takedown on them, but nice gun. forget about Glock.. its puke
ruger LC9S Pro.. any good.. nice gun there.
So what I am looking for, right weight that don't drag me down while carry, ease of take down, least recoil issue. and lastly be able to mod or fine tune it
The CZ-75 compact has never jammed,it's lightweight in my opinion and the recoil feels like a 22lr.almost when you shoot it.Holds 14 rounds and did I mention it never jams!Ha Ha!I love this gun.
shooter45,, I used to have keltec pf9.. I hated it,, a bit too small and comes to shooting it, it numbed my fingers. sold it to get a springfeild 45 compact.
gdmoody,, looks like I leaning toward the bersa, I did tried the sig p938 from a pal of mine,, a damn nice gun,, a minture 1911 gun. question: the sig p938, don't have to "cock and lock" this one?..
As much as I love my Glock 26, I could just as easily carry a Baretta Nano. And Glock just came out with a single stack 9mm. The G-43. Of course the best shooter is a Sig. 229, but it's heavier than the others. If you're a 1911 fanatic the SA EMP is a beauty. But beauty comes at a price. I wouldn't exclude the Kel-Tec PF-9. It's the smallest, lightest 9mm. For the money, you can't beat it or its warranty. The down side is, you only want to shoot it if you have to. My hand starts hurting every time I think of pulling the trigger.
I had a 9mm Bersa Firestorme that I gave to my Daughter-in-law a couple of years ago. From what I remember, It is NOT a cock and lock. If you have it cocked and engage the safety lever, it acts as a decocker. I seem to remember that if the safety is off, it can be fired double action.
On ease of takedown you can't get much easier than a Glock
I've had a Beretta Nano also ,fine pistol and breaks down super easy
The S&W Shield is a little more complex
You have to use a small screwdriver to lift the sear deactivator lever
I just bought a Shield and I think it's a better gun than the Beretta Nano but just slightly
Rawright45... you just nail it.true that accuracy better than power. Dont matter what caliber use longs hit it target until threat is gone..
Yes it a royal in the ass comes dealing two other states rules. NY have it own crap but can carry load and ready. Same for SD/WYO/PA.which i offen visit.
A non 1911 type would be an example a M&P Sheild. Far as sig p938 goes. It might be a choice i might pick.
Any other folks wanna chimes in??? I am still all ears. I wanna stay away from keltec and glock.. they are not my type. The bersa got one called bpccp . Nice one there.
I understand your loading and unloading dilemma but I urge you to make yourself comfortable with cocked and locked. The slide racking could cost you your life. I know you most likely know this and think about it too.
DD, true the standard way of carrying 1911. Mybrother doesn't believe this method of practice. But never thought of this question just now. If you have it loaded BUT with the hammer down. Once you take the safety off does it still shoot?
How small do you want to go?
I carry a SIG 938 when I need/want the smallest setup.
Most of the time I carry a SIG 224
The controls are exactly that of a 226. SA/DA with decocker.
About the size or slightly smaller than a commander sized 1911.
CCHolderinMain, the idea size would be the sig P938. it fits well in my hand.. nothing smaller.. did look at a sig P224,, only two fingers to hold it,, not good to handle it. 9mm cal is plenty
Nothing to be sorry for! Just trying to give you some ideas for a compact 9mm that isn't in the 1911 style of controls.
You might be thinking of a SIG 238, that is a 380 and it's even smaller than the 938. I do believe the 938 is the smallest 9 that SIG makes.
thanks CC holder,, yeah the P938 is a nice gun, I am on the middle of the road on that.. my brother was not wild on cocked and lock method,, I am leary of it. still looking .. saw and handle the bersa bpcc9 . Nice gun but no safety lock.
Wolf,
You Mentioned Bersa, maybe I can be of some help. I own two and carried the 9MM Thunder Ultra compact Pro for more than two years.
Both Bersa's have functioned flawlessly from day one. The 9MM fits my hand perfectly. You can't ask anymore from a handgun. The UC PRO is a DA/SA, Actuate the safety and it decocks. Take the safety off and the first shot is DA, all the rest are SA. For the money I doubt you can find a higher quality weapon on the market. Oh, plenty of capacity too.
I don't know if you were considering the UC Pro but I recommend that you take a look.
I just put several more magazines through my new M&P Shield today and I continue to be very happy with this pistol.
The trigger has really came around with about 160 rounds through it and is very good with little to no creep and a nice pre break wall. It aims well and seems to really be accurate with either FMJ 115 gr or the Xtreme 124 gr HP I have ran through it. My son is not a huge fan of smaller pistols, but he picked it up off of the table today and fell in love it with it also.
This is a good SD gun, but is a real pleasure to shoot at the range as well.

Last month Guns & Ammo had a report of 10 different compact 9mm's, and the Taurus 709 was one of four to keep on shooting without malfunction. It also was the least expensive with a MSRP of $302.00 and also turned in the smallest aggregate group at 25 yards.
I have a 738 in my truck stuck to a magnet on my counsel. Its the mini version of the 709. I shot all of the small 380s prior to buying the 738 to include the kel tec and the ruger and the taurus won out.
I must have gotten one of the early 709s to come out. It kept locking back with one round left in the mag, so I sent it back, then it started FTF and just denting primers, so I sent it back. Then I sold it. I have never really liked Taurus, except for some of the older good revolvers. I have stayed away from them since.
Well folks.. I pounder and went to stop at a dealer,, getting the hard look at three guns. M&P thin and nice.. looked at the safety on it,, damn kinda smallish but nice gun. the dealer was helpful pointed out the kaur gun.. nice but would be nice to have somekind of safety lock. sooo l looked at the bersa ultra compact.. nice butttt never did like the way the safety declocker works.. it snaps the hammer down.. ewww. then looked at the glock 42,, 4th gen. nice but not a great fan of them. So finally,, ready DD and gdmoody? looked at the sig P938.. I am sold on it .. will be going to a different dealer who have it cheaper . the dealer got a Kimber ultra model,, close copy of sig.. only two diff are the sights, kimber is plan white dot and smoother tiigger pull.. damn pricey thing. thus the sig at a better price..
Nice choice. If it fills your needs sure you'll be happy.
