My wife recently inherited a pistol from her father. It's an Iver Johnson 5 shot 38 S&W, It's a Safety Automatic and it's either a Second or Third model. The serial number is Q21104. The owls on the grips face forward, and it's a 3.25" barrel.

I look for more information on it, date of manufacture, value, and anything other useful information. Thanks for the assistance.

Welcome to TFF.

It'a a large frame 2nd model made in 1906 for black powder ammo.

Use of current smokeless powder ammo is probably not dangerous if gun is OK mechanically, but will loosen the lockup more quickly.

As a black powder model with no original finish, value is less than $100.

hrf thanks for the quick response. The gun goes beyond the monetary value for my wife, it used to belong to her mother. But at least for insurance purpose, it's nice to know what it's worth. She also got a Winchester 1200 12ga shotgun from her father.
