Have your wondered how suppressor works?

Metallic "fillers" use up volume valuable for dissipation of pressure wave (as well, then, as sound intensity). Our experimentation many years ago working with Sionics commercial suppressors showed that non-metallic filler of packed, heat resistant material greatly increased sound intensity reduction. The general drawback was deterioration of the fill in time, requiring replacement.

Our best result allowed a MAC-10 Machine pistol to be fired upwards single-shot, with the result that the bolt could be heard hitting closed, and the bullet's flight heard as a mild whistle lasting about one second. This was achieved with special loads involving heavier than normal 9mm bullets and shotgun powder.
