The finish I would put at 85 percent maybe a bit higher but I am not good at determining that so its just a guess on my part. I put the date of manufacture at 1914 to 1915, I do not think it was shot much if at all. the rifling is in very good condition.

It doesn't look like it has ever been fired. There is no powder residue evident at the forcing cone or on the front of the cylinder.
Rifling doesn't wear out.

It appears to me that you have pictures of two different guns there. Could be the pictures but it looks like one blued and one nickel plated

I does look like two different guns but it's just the lighting.

Look at the three scratch marks to the right of what is probably the hammer screw on the left side of the frame on both the 'blue' pic, and the 'nickle' pic and you will see the three scratches are the same.

Nice little H&R!
Probably spent most of it's life in a nightstand or dresser drawer.
The good thing is it's new enough that it's rated for smokeless powder ammunition.

We often forget how popular top break .38 S&W caliber revolvers were back in the day. H&R and Iver Johnson were the big sellers.

I hope you can find ammo to shoot that gun.

It's hard to find a Auto Ejector Hammerless like yours in the 2-1/2" barrel length. They were cataloged but just not many were sold. Most were 3-1/4" or longer. Yours is a fine example of one and thanks for showing it to us.

I love top breaks.. I have a 32 and a 38 that are fine guns.. even if the cartridges are a bit dated
