I’m looking for another good 12 gauge pump shotgun. I want one that will shoot any ammo you feed it. I had a newer 870 Express magnum 12 ga but it only accepted high brass shot shells. I have a couple old wingmaster 870 shotguns. I’m looking for a good quality 12 gauge wood stock pump shotgun that will shoot any shot shells. Even cheap Winchester ammo from Wal Mart! Thanks folks!

I’m trying to figure why a pump would have problems with various ammunition manufacturers. In any event, I have two Browning BPS’s, two Winchester Model 12’s, two Winchester 1897’s and a Mossberg 500. The Browning’s are by far the smoothest but if I had to put them in my favorite order it would go Model 12, BPS, 1897 and then Mossberg.

Hard to go wrong with a Mossberg. I have a 930 spx, an Auto that eats everything, high brass low brass 3" mag, with out hesitation. Their pump guns are as dependable as it gets. Get a 590 tough, reliable and not overly expensive.

For the past 20 years or so folks have been yelling about the inexpensive (cheap) Winchester steel headed shotshells sticking in the chambers and being hard to eject! Remington 870 Express have been especially bad with them.

Me Too! A 870 express mag should be able to handle just about anything. I've shot everything in my wingmaster 870 mag.

The word at my club is Remington shotguns don't work well with Winchester shells. I know they will not eject in my 1100 or my sons. I thought there was something wrong with my shotgun but a lot of the guys at the club tell me its the Winchester shells. My 1100 works with any other shells.

All my other shotguns work fine with Winchester shells.

I can see a semi-auto being a little finicky but not a pump.

Weird. My Rem 870 Express bought new around 1995 feeds anything I give it. Maybe they aren't finishing the innards like they used to?

I have 6 870s, each in a different configuration. Defense, bird, slug, etc. They all eat anything I feed them, including Winchester.

They don't. OP has a problem. If your couple old 870 wingmasters wont shoot...id give up.

I just bought a Browning BPS 12 gauge from my son-in-law, he won it in a gun club raffle. I like the bottom loading/ejection. Keeps crud/dirt out of the action much like my old Ithaca 37. And the empties lie right at your feet. The new Remington express 870s sure ain't built like they used to be. The old Wingmasters were great reliable shotguns.
