Antoine Fraveau was wearing this breastplate when he was struck and killed by a cannonball at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815

Evidently they didn't recover the ball to check for expansion?

    Wow....that can't even be imagined.

Nothing a couple of chest seals shouldn't take care of until he got to the trauma center.

While waiting for a doctor to answer your question, I will opine from the standpoint of an ignorant non-medical person.

The shock would have rendered him unconscious immediately. IMO he would not have opened his eyes or taken another breath after that. His brain would have been "dead" after all the oxygen was used up. I've wondered about what people would have been aware of in the case of decapitation. Any doctors on?

It's kinda bad to think about but if the shock of having your head removed doesn't render you unconscious then the brain doesn't die until the oxygen is used up as stated earlier. That could take up to a few minutes since the blood has to drain out slowly. I read that somewhere in a discussion on beheading's.

lol!!...Lik...I think that's one of those cases where "hittin' around the edges" is close enough!

    That is purely unfathomable.
