In 1940 H&R started using letter prefixes on the serial number, starting with A. Prefix N would be 1953. While being solid reliable guns, H&R do not yet achiev great value other than being a "using " firearm. Condition is every thing, in like new conditon, perhaps 125-150, down to boat anchor condition, maybe 50. Perhaps others will more information and different values. Hope that helps
