The "techy" section of Yahoo! had an article about it a day or two ago, also...

And I think I heard snippets about it on the news earlier...worth checking into...

stopped watching the news and have elected to try to be positive as in i'm positive our presidents sucks :D but on a more serious note how does this virus spread ? do most of my internet time while at work so i wouldn't be heartbroken if something bad happens

My son, who at 13 has already forgotten more about computeronics than I will ever know, said it seems to be real.

He said the best precaution was disconnecting from the net all day tomorrow, so if one has the virus, it wont get the activation code. Though that seems a bit extreme to me. A whole day without TFF? Its become a corner stone of maintaining my sanity!

The Worm that everyone is talking about is technically called Win32/Conficker.B. It is a variant of the Win32/Conficker.A Worm that came out several months ago. It also goes by the name Downadup. If you do your updates regularly, Microsoft will scan your system monthly with the Malicious Software Removal Tool and Conficker will be removed.

Microsoft offers a free online scan for Windows XP users that will see if you have it and remove conficker. Here is the link: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm?s_cid=sah
Note: you must be using Internet Explorer when you visit this page or it will not work.

For Vista users, here is yours http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/whatsnew.htm

Just for good measure I'd update your anti virus program and run the scan check today tho. It just takes a little time to be safe. Kind of like checking a gun to make sure it's empty and to be better safe than sorry.

    Enjoy the day.

I pay a yearly fee to MS onecare, so far it has done fine.
have it scan once a week.

In this day & age you almost have to pay somebody for virus protection, IMHO.

To not do so, is a gamble that could be expensive, again IMHO. :)

Indeed. This reminds me of having unprotected sex with strangers, one day you are going to catch something very nasty, possibly life threatening.

    Or

You can use some good condoms, doubled up, and avoid the nasties out there, not to mention keeping people from coming in the ‘back door’. J

Another thing, back up your ‘work’ or valuable information on a second hard drive or some other storage device, because it is after all only a machine, and machines sooner or later fail.
