Wondering what year my .38 S&W safety revolver (3rd model .. w/open hammer) is. Serial # is H84552
Not pretty (anywhere to purchase a replacement front sight?)
You have an Iver Johnson 3rd Model 3rd Variation Safety Hammer Automatic Revolver made in 1929. It is considered a smokeless frame and should be safe for modern smokeless ammunition after you have it checked out by a competent gunsmith.
The front sight blade will be nearly impossible to find, you're may one to consider making one or having one made for it.
