42 in" long, blued barrel, walnut stock, checkered forearm
Has the letters RHGI on all parts?
Can anyone tell me about this and value??

Welcome to TFF.

The RHGI is the serial "number"

Champion's with all-letter serials are the late ones made ca. 1940-1956, but I can't help with value.

From the 1940's until 1956 Iver Johnson used all letters as serial numbers, but there is no break down as to specific years. As already posted, with out pictures it would be impossible to give you a valid value estimate, but single barrel shotguns rarely ( there are exceptions, but Iver Johnson is not one of them ) bring more than 125 to 150 when like new condition, in the well used condition most single barrels are in, 50 to 75 dollars. No picture, a guesstimate is the best you will get.:)

RHGI would translate to the 8592nd gun produced under the all letter S/N system. It's based on F=1, I=2, T=3, C=4 etc... From the name FITCHBURG, with X=0 .
