So I picked up a 1938 German K98K yesterday while visiting my folks for the summer. When I got it home to clean her up (absolutely filthy) I took the bolt assy. out, cleaned it, put it back in and now the safety is stuck on fire. I can re-cock it and fire it, but it will not move to half safe or full safe.

Is it really stuck or just stiff. They sometimes are hard to flip. Did your take off the cocking piece when you cleaned it? You may not have the cocking piece as far down on the firing pin as it should go.

Okay, so after further inspection the cocking piece move forward just a hair after I've manually cocked and flipped the safety to half and back to the firing position. So the tab is not able to catch the cocking piece

Most likely explanation is that someone did a little too much stoning on the trigger to smooth it up. End result of that if you take off too much material is the symptom you're describing.
